Taylor Biddle Opticians recently celebrated 25 years of serving the local community. The business has thrived and prospered over the years due to focussing not only on exceptional personal service, but also on clinical excellence, always being among the first opticians to invest in state-of-the-art technology for the most thorough, up to date eye examinations.
Tracey Taylor co-founded Taylor Biddle in 1994 at the Compton premises and two years later the Wombourne practice was opened. In February 2014 Olha Lac joined Tracey as a co-director. Olha, an Award-winning specialist in Schoolvision and Visual Stress, has helped hundreds of children with reading difficulties to achieve their best educational potential and grow in confidence.
Customer service has always been at the heart of what we do. The friendly team of 21 staff, including five optometrists, two Dispensing Opticians and four dispensing assistants oversee more than 7000 sight tests that are carried out yearly. Time doesn’t stand still at Taylor Biddle and the team are constantly learning new skills in order to expand their knowledge of the latest eyecare and eyewear innovations.
A story recently featured on BBC Midlands Today told of how a chance meeting in a supermarket with Tracey probably saved the eyesight of David Williams.
David mentioned that he was experiencing flashing lights and floaters, so Tracey advised him to see her the next day under the free Minor Eye Conditions Scheme (MECS).
With the help of the latest eye-scanning technology, Tracey found a tear in the retina at the back of David’s eye that was overlooked at his recent high street eye test. He was referred and promptly treated with laser to prevent a retinal detachment which could cause devastating sight loss.
“In recent years eye testing equipment has evolved beyond belief and we at Taylor Biddle have fully embraced the latest cutting-edge technology. This helps us to deliver the best possible service to all of our customers.”
“Our 3D OCT scans deep into the central retinal layers at the back of the eye. This allows us to identify and monitor the most common age-related problems like macular degeneration and glaucoma and refer for early treatment when needed. Early detection and treatment often result in a much better visual outcome. In our Compton branch the Daytona Optomap laser scan produces an amazingly clear 200-degree panoramic view of the back of the eye, to help early detection and treatment of certain sight threatening eye diseases. But most of all we love to be able to show our patients what we see at the back of the eyes and reassure them that all is looking normal.”
Last year the Compton branch was expanded and stylishly refurbished by an award-winning designer. The extra space and the addition of a lift enables us to offer an even greater service and experience to everyone, especially to those with limited mobility. More spacious, advanced high-tech testing rooms, a lift to the upper floor with large frame display areas, disabled washroom as well as ample parking at the back are very convenient for disabled accessibility as well as for those who are looking for a highly professional and enjoyable experience.
Our latest eyewear collections contain the largest selection of rimless frames in the area aswell as a fabulous range of top designer brands. There are also great quality budget ranges to choose from.
The Taylor Biddle team also love to give back to the community by raising money for local charities. In the last few years over £2000 was raised for Motor Neurone and the Premature Baby Unit. Macmillan Coffee Mornings have raised hundreds of pounds and we also regularly raise money with raffles and donations for Compton Care and Vision Aid Overseas.
